this sundial is directed for X-treme runners using a recycled water canteen bottle and a knee bandage. never again will you lose track of time, with the help of this cylinder sundial (shepherd's sundial). the vertical lines represent the months of the year relative to the circumference of the bottle and the length of the gnomon. the curved lines graph the sun's activity every hour--these take into consideration the different altitudes of the sun during the year at Berkeley's latitude: 38 degrees north of the equator. the sundial can be placed true-north, directly in front of the sun, and be set to the proper month by rotating the bandage. the length of the gnomon's shadow (orange stick) will end on the appropriate time of the day. this is an important application to architecture, since the activity of the sun is critical in designing and positioning indoor and outdoor spaces.
